Drift Net / Hard Maple

$325.00

There's a rhythm to moving water—the way it shapes stone, carves banks, fills the air with its voice. The Drift Net was born from days spent watching that movement, standing in current, surrounded by the hardwoods that line the rivers we fish.

This is the net we return to. The one that works in mountain creeks and tailwaters alike. The net that adapts to how you fish, where you fish, what the day asks of you. We designed it to be your go-to—the one that handles most situations without compromise, built from North American hardwoods that connect you to the forests surrounding the water.

The hoop is made to flex where it needs to, staying rigid where it counts. The handle draws inspiration from traditional axe design—a pronounced endpoint with a sweeping curve that lets you know exactly where it ends without looking. That same curve slides effortlessly into a net holster, tucks cleanly between your back and pack, fits where you need it without fighting.

We shaped the handle with an oval cross-section so it positions naturally in your hand when a fish is coming to net. As the handle meets the hoop, it flows inward—a subtle concave transition that follows your grip, guiding your hand to exactly where it should be.

The net bag is rubber mesh—gentle on fish, durable in use, minimal water absorption. It's secured with braided polyethylene cord in moss green, chosen for its knot-holding strength and a touch of color that feels right against wood and water.

This is one of the first pieces we've made at Barn Swallow Studio, and it carries everything we're trying to do: create tools meant to be used hard, loved well, and kept long. The dings will come—scratches from rocks, sun-darkened wood, the smooth wear pattern your grip leaves on the handle. That patina isn't damage. It's the record of where you've been, the rivers you've waded, the fish you've held and released. Whether it's in your hand on the water or hanging on your wall between seasons, this net is meant to gather that story.

Built to last. Made to use. Designed to remind you of the places and people that matter.

*Each net is numbered and corresponds to the photos above. We love the character of wood and how no two pieces are alike. Select your exact net by number before adding to cart.

, Net #06 – Hard maple with ash center laminate in hoop

Pale, tight-grained hardwood with subtle figure. Exceptionally strong and resilient.

Each wood is selected for strength, flexibility, and character. Finished with hand-rubbed oil—that penetrates, hardens and waterproofs the wood while preserving its natural look. The finish deepens with age and can be refreshed as needed.

  • Each net is sealed with multiple coats of a penetrating exterior oil finish to protect against water and weather. A light fresh coat of oil from time to time will keep it looking and performing its best.

    Daily:

Rinse with fresh water after use. Wipe clean to remove any dirt or debris. Wipe dry with a cloth. Store in a dry, well-ventilated area—avoid leaving in direct sun or sealed in a vehicle for extended periods.

    Seasonal Care:

Apply pure tung oil seasonally to preserve the wood’s natural finish:
